This is one of the cult classic horror movies based on true stories that has a history like none other horror ever made. Ambulances used to be ready outside the theaters for carrying fainted people because of the horror it caused. Truly spine chilling story of how a little girl is possessed by evil spirits and the acting of the child artist, Linda Blair, is simply outstanding. Of course, due credits to the director William Friedkin and most important person, the writer and producer William Peter Blatty. The picturization of the activities of the possessed child is remarkable and stays with you long after you have watched.
Birds, 1963
Yes, this is sure one of the best horror movies ever made. Directed by none other than Alfred Hitchcock. Need I say anymore? Turning beautiful and so harmless creatures like birds into a subject of horror is really something that nobody else can ever imagine. The story starts with a simple scene of a pet shop where the protagonists come to shop and then follows the strange incidents of violent bird attacks. A must have for the best classic horror movies collection.
Rosemary’s Baby, 1968
This story is based on the novel by the same name (authored by Ira Levin) and written as well as directed by Roman Polanski, this is another of the classic horror movies that is sure to have you sitting with your partner or friends close throughout the film. The story follows a couple and their strange neighbors, seemingly harmless but ominous. The actual story starts way before Rosemary’s baby comes into the world. Psycho, 1960
Hardly somebody might not seen the scene… the motel by the road in a dark night and the blood curdling background music that plays when the shadow with a rod is around. A psychological thriller movies again by Alfred Hitchcock is yet another top classic horror movies which is based on serial killers.
The Evil Dead, 1981
Surrounded by controversy this film has survived in the list of classic horror movies till date. Thanks to the Cannes film festival that played a big role in bringing this film to the audiences and horror movie lovers. The horror starts with the a audiotape. The reason of being surrounded by controversy was the gruesome and gory things shown in this movie. So you gotta have a strong heart and a mindless-mind so that you can sleep peaceful after watching this top horror movie. This film has a series in its name which still find audience galore.
The Shining, 1980
Again a movie based on novel of the same name by Stephen King this film is on the top of horror movies list for anybody who loves this genre of movie. One would think that this classic horror movie is based on the little child who has just shifted with his parents to a new place for his father’s job. But as the story goes on the actual horror is revealed in a totally different way. Go and watch this film with this note.
Child’s Play, 1988
No wonder this movie too is in the list of horror movies seeing the popularity of the evil doll’s character, Chucky. Having a series of four films so far this story is also made into comic books. The basic story is of an evil spirit of a murderer whose soul of course hasn’t reached its final destination and is trapped in the doll which has become so popular.
